Eek - bought an x-type
Discussion
Hi chaps, didn't realise there was a jag forum until today. I've bought a 51 plate X-type to replace my Celica as a daily car. 72k on the clock and its the 2.5 Sport. I'm hoping its going to prove as reliable as the celica has been over the last 3 years!
Jumping from the Jap reliability as a daily car is scaring the shite out of me! My toy car fund usually ends up costing me £5k+ a year on maintainence so I need to ensure its not drained by my daily car!

I replaced my Celica GT4 with an XJ6 11.5 years ago and I'm still running the XJ6. The Jag has been even better than the Toyota reliability wise and I'm still Jumping from the Jap reliability as a daily car is scaring the shite out of me! Shnozz,
Welcome to the X type World I've owned 2 2.5 sports from new 2003 and a 2006,
as you've got a 1st year car (y/51) they did have issues but if yours has a full service history the dealer should have sorted them.
But just in case: -
weeping windscreen washers
Door locks casn be a probelm
boot lock light connetor, boot can be shut but light remains on flattening battery, boot lock design chanegd on later models
popping air vents on dash
propshaft whine (still get it on 2006 model)
Bushes tend to go quickly, I needed new rear set at 24k on 2003 model.
Front tyres wear excessive on inner rim, check frequently outside will look perfect, Jaguar have changed toe in over the years
With AWD the X is a heavy car don't expect more than 25mpg, the weight does seem to put extra pressure on suspension and the brakes and steering alignment.
But hey it's a jag they have character and I still smile every day when I turn that v6 engine on and take her on some twisty country road.

Its funny you should mention door locks as I haven't been able to pick her up yet (agreed the deal last Monday) as the rear central locking wasn't working and they are fixing it (slowly) at the moment! Had to get the girlfriend to climb over the driver's seat for the test drive and then did the same when I got her to drive it. Not easy when I am 6'3" and 15 stone, although pleasing to see how much room there is in the back for a big chap.

The interior door panels on the X-Type have a nasty habit of breaking when they are removed, the slowness in getting your door locks repaired my be due to this.Shnozz said:

There is one just for the X-Type. http://www.x-type.org.ukShnozz said:
arse. Just phoned the dealer and they have now said it wont be ready until next week. I work away from home so won't be able to collect it now until next weekend at the earliest.
Phil - how far is the dealer..? If we can help we will... would be handy if it was MK as the bloody train drivers are on strike, so I could get home easily!
If I'd known you were after a hack, I'd have sold you the ST200...!

It may be a mondeo chassis, but it had to have the right badge on the bonnet

Not quite. Unlike the vast proportion of people on these forums who are more than happy to put forward their opinions that have no substantial grounding, I have worked in the industry, and worked for the Blue Oval / PAG.

TBH I'm just sick of reading the same old crap about Ford / Jag / LR / Aston / Volvo which is simply reconstituted rubbish published by the "comics" that sit on the motoring shelves of the newsagents across the country...

I share your frustration about the weak media and poor journalism that surrounds PAG. I'm on the inside looking out...
Crushingly depressing isn't it..? The Focus RS is always a good one.. try and find a press release from Ford that gives a date... yep, you can't - as they didn't.

Likewise. Have to think before posting, and check whether the information is in the public domain...
