Hi all,

I have an s Type. 3.0 X plate 2000.

The car is getting on, 182,000 on the clock but it has a few issues. 1, the n/s passenger window does not open (needs new motor i'm told). The aircon system has two outputs. OFF and FREEZING. There is no heat in the car at all.

It's on it's third gearbox (auto) and quite often "clunks" into gear, especially reverse.

The dilemna I have is do I invest money in keeping it on the road or could a i sell it as it stands (the MOT runs out this coming weekend). Bodywork is OK, interior not bad (one hole in leather seat)

Even in this condition will it still have a resale value? I'd hate to virtually give it away but by the same token I wouldn't like to deceive anyone into buying it without knowing the issues.

Any suggestions on fixing the window / heater?

Thanks for any replies.

At that age and mileage it's probrably not worth much to anyone else...especially with the price of petrol and road tax.

What's it worth to you is a better question. Are you sick to death of the car and hate driving it, or do you still like it and are happy with the running cost and potential unreliability as the miles get even higher.

If it's the latter then get second hand spares - there's loads of Jaguar breakers around - try Eurojag and have a go at fitting them yourself. The window motor shouldn't be too hard to swap and the loss of heat could be the (if the S is the same as the XJ) the electric pump that circulates coolant through the heater matrix. Both easy to do.

Older Jaguars are potentialy either luxury car bargins or absolute money pit nightmares.

Tough call deciding what's best in your case.

Thanks for that. I've had a rough offer of £2K to part ex it against another motor (alas not a jag this time).

I think I may go down that route.

2 Grand? might get a bit more in a private sale if you can be bothered with the hassle.

You need a buyer to fall in love with it, rather than view the car objectively.

Dammit!!...even the best of us fall in love with shabby old Jaguars somtimes!!.......banghead

I think you may have a tough time selling it - anything can happen at 182,000 miles, in fairness I don't think the car owes you a lot. It's really a break up job or a personal hobby now. I'd take the £2000. Why not buying a Jag, there are some fantastic bargains?
