Got enough oil in it?

It is an early 4.2ltr, I think there were at least 2 mods to the timing chain tensioners since the intro to the 4.2 V8.

Get 'em changed maybe?

Have the timing chain tensioners checked immediately. Stitch in time.

Hi, mine had a slight knocking noise when cold. Ended up a cracked pipe by the exhaust recirculation valve was the culprit.

I wouldn't use the car until then if I were you. Just natural caution.

The noise quietens quite a bit once warm.

A friend had a similar experience on a low mileage 4.2 XJR. It was quick and easy to sort but if it had been ignored it could have turned into a nasty situation. The symptoms sound very similar. Elite will tell you no doubt.
