Just wondering how much i expect to pay for brakes and pads all round on a XKR 4.0? I have been told its around £1650 fitted at jag dealer. Is that correct?

NST, do you want to know how much it is to retro fit the brembo's or just change the pads and discs on exisitng brembo's?

if it is to retro, then the price you have quoted is not bad. However the most expensive part is the hubs, as you need the 20inch wheels for them and if they aren't already fitted, this will be where the cost is.

I will need new Brembo discs and pads soon-ish?
How much will they cost, fitted?

(I have the Brembo/20s option already, they are just getting a little old!).

The plot thickens.

The above (linked) supplier sell great-price brake parts, but not for Brembo-optioned cars.

I have been assured by Elite Jags, Derby, that i have the Brembo option, even though the callipers say Jaguar.

The VIN number says that i have std Jaguar brakes. Says the people above.

How can i tell for sure which i have?

Baffled!

It’s Friday, and it’s boooooooooze night. I hope this comes across okay.

I thought that you could have the smaller disks or the larger disks on XJR’s/XKR’s.

If you look at the attached link (scroll down), the photo of the brakes still says Jaguar on the callipers but the brakes are still referred t as ‘Brembos’ in the wording…

http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_2734/article.html

The add from my previous posted site even states…

BRAKE DISC KIT-JAGUAR REAR #JLM21748
JAGUAR DAIMLER VENTED - CROSS DRILLED REAR
BRAKE DISC KIT INCLUDES 2 REAR BRAKE DISC ( JLM21281 )
JAGUAR XJR 1998 - 2003
JAGUAR XK8 - XKR 2000 - 2003
SUITABLE FOR MODELS WITH BREMBO R PERFORMANCE OPTION

Or neither????

Both are JAGUAR Brembo brakes. Order them through Jag.

The discs are not drilled and the callipers say 'Jaguar R', with the R in red.

What are they then?

Right, Elite Jags of Derby assure me 100% that i DO have the Brembos, but the non-drilled variety.
I need to pay £1,100 for new discs and pads fitted, they reckon.
Not good news at all.

Unless anyone knows a cheaper way?

What, aside not having the work done? wink

Nope, they are expensive things I'm afraid. Stick with 'em and pay the bill.

No way am i paying £1,100 for 4 discs and 4 sets of pads.

There must be a more economical way?

The reason these Jags are reasonable prices to start with, are because some things cost quite a lot to fix as the cars get older. Brembo disks being one, timing chain tensioners being another for example.

You can't payless than things cost. How about doing the work yourself?

I would stick with what you have on and bite the bullet.
