XKR 4.2 poor fuel consumption?
Discussion
I am acutely aware that one doesn't buy this car for economy, but even so, i am surprised at just HOW thirsty this car is at present.
It has 31,000 miles under it's belt, with fjsh, has brand new plugs and air filter and is driven sensibly most of the time.
Yet the last 2 tankfuls have produced 13.1 and 12.9 mpg, which is pretty shocking.
I dread to think what it would be if i booted it everywhere!
Tyres have 35 psi, so i have absolutely no idea whay it is so heavy on petrol!

I have to say that is dismal. I would expect that sort of return when booting it around town on v short journeys. I averaged 20-25MPG in mine, and it hoovered just over 30MPG on a motorway cruise at 70-80MPH.
Seems to me that is wrong. Have you calculated what the actual fuel consumption is? i.e. fill up, reset your trip computer and drive until you fill again and then compute the figures yourself? It may just be the gauge, failing that you may need to get the ECU sorted to correctly metre the fuel. Is there a lot of blue fumes present when revving???
needs investigation.

I was getting not much more than that over regular london traffic. What was sad was that my average speed was almost the same as my mpg!
I just bought a 3.0 Freelander and am only getting 11.9mpg on that. Dunno how long it takes for an engine to "run in", but its 400miles on the clock now and I'm sure it should be 25mpg by now. anyho wrong forum for this rant!

We are having a free dyno day this Saturday (8th)for XKEC members, as well as BHP and torque, one of the other areas we can measure on the dyno is air fuel ratio, (this will not be checked as part of a service) this can give you an instant indication if something is wrong, and how the engine is running.
We have just two slots left on the day if you would like one.
