Did the car you test have the 10 way optional seat switch pack?

You are able top lower the seat base quite low on those cars.

The conv looses nearly two inches in headroom to the coupe...are you sure you want the wind in your hair

The very early models had different seats that don't take up as much room as the Recaro's.

I am 6'5" in an early XK8 with the seat fully down and fully back I still have some room above my head!

I'm sorry to say this but some time ago I had exactly the same idea, I'm 6'2" and I had no more room in the XK convertible than in a Lotus Elise. For that reason I went for a coupe.

Not wanting to sound sacreligious or anything, but you might be better off with a 987 Boxster (not a 986!!) or a BMW Z4, or a 996 Cabrio, all of which have far better headroom. Either that or wait and get the new XK, where the problem is solved.
