XJ40 Starting Problem
Discussion
Hi can someone help me identify the problem. My XJ40 wont start. I turn the ignition and there is a clicking sound. The rad fan turns slowly but the engine doesnt fire. The internal lights flick on and off as well. Is it battery too low, starter or something else do you think? Thanks Mark
Any Luck?
Does sound like a discharged battery.
BUT, when I had my xj40 back in 2006, I had the same problem and it turned out to be the gearbox sensor (assuming its an Auto). The gearbox wasn't telling the ignition that it was in PARK and the ignition refused to fire the starter motor, although it still turned all the ancillary functions.
If the park symbol does not light up on the dash then this could be the problem.
