Petrol question for my XKR
Discussion
Now that I'm getting used to sub 20mpg and a relatively small tank in my 07 XKR, I have found myself spending a lot of time at the pumps.
I initially started filling her up with 97 RON but over time this is going to cost me. Just wondered if anyone had tested the difference performance wise of using 97 in the 4.2 Supercharged engine, and also if there's any improvement in mpg.
Cheers
Ed

Regular unleaded from Shell. I use a Shell Drivers Club card. So every litre I put in I get 0.01p back via a voucher every now and again!
TBH, with a lazy V8 (<2000 rpm @ 75MPH) you won't notice a difference with 98RON, just a lighter wallet!!!
I wouldn't use supermarket petrol. I stick to only Shell or BP petrol.
I seem to get about 200-240 miles/tank. Once your engine loosens up a bit, you'll get better returns, mine gets about 26MPG hwy and 18MPG City. (Heavy right foot mind you.
)
In some ways I quite like the small petrol tank, it's only fifty odd quid a fill up. I hated filling up my 100litre fuel tank in the Range Rover!

Sort of on topic. I have an S-Type 4.2 V8 SE. I usually run it on standard unleaded but occasionally I do try higher octane for maybe a month to see if I get any better performance or MPG. I have to say I've never noticed a difference. For some reason, perfomance improves slightly if I use Esso rather than Shell standard unleaded: I've no idea why! I keep away from supermarket fuel unless absolutely necessary. R.
