XF - Luxury or Premium Luxury?
Discussion
I'm currently looking at buying a 2.7 diesel XF. Personally I cannot see anything in the standard features lists of these two variants that warrants the difference in price.
Am I missing something or is it genuinely not worth upgrading?
Would the residuals/resale difference make the Premium worthwhile or would it not be of any relevance on a used car?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

a Premium Lux will always be worth a bit more than a Lux at trade-in time, the difference in spec is more than you think, bigger wheels (tho you really want 19"s) Memory seats, powerfold/auto-dim mirrors, heated seats and screen, even higher quality leather on seats and dashtop, upgraded audio system... Having said that (apart from the wheels) the luxury has most things you need, depends if you value those extra touches?
I had a test drive in an XF. Lovely car but I have real problems with the engine options. The V8's are great but will be very dear to run (more so since the budget), I can see no argument for the 3 litre and having driven the diesel I found it to say the least sluggish.
In answer to the question I would fork out the extra for the Premium Luxury. To me the extras are well worthwhile.

Agree totally. In answer to the question I would fork out the extra for the Premium Luxury. To me the extras are well worthwhile.

Thanks for the input, you at least made me feel better about the choice that was made for me...!
If I placed an order today I wouldn't see the car until June/July, however my dealer had a Premium Luxury cancellation that I can have in early-mid May. Decision made!
One Liquid Silver with Charcoal interior Prem Lux on its way!
Reading your replies, it was the right decision. Thanks!

I test drove the 2.7 xf d at my local dealer they haven't even regsitered the 3.0 petrol for test drives they hope to sell it as new or might put it in the showroom, when I test drove last week the XF sales scores where DIESEL 55 3.0 Petrol 0 and a handful of v8 and v8s. Jaguar might as well drop the 3.0 petrol now and launch a larger diesel 3.5, the budget has killed any slim chances the 3.0 had of picking up any sales. I was also told the 3.0 petrol does not work as well with the auto box as the 2.7 diesel, the petrol spends time hunting where as the diesel always appears to be in the right power band.

There are rumours of a larger (3L) version of the V6 diesel. The bigger V8 diesel from the PAG group will not fit in the XF, it's too wide for the engine bay. It might be a possibility for the next XJ.
the v8 3.6 Range Rover engine wont fit in the XF as you say but there is a 3.0 diesel on the way from Autumn 09. However, you dont need to wait for that as DMS can remap the 2.7 to give the same results of 250bhp and 500lb/ft torque for about 700 notes.Having driven hundreds of all the variants during the launch, IMHO you get what you pay for initially and ongoing.
The Supercharge is fantasic, but the V8 equally sounds/goes very well.
The Diesel (IMO) is in no way sluggish ... but I suppose it depends what you copare it to.
You obviously don't get the same power as the V8/SC but I wouldn't expect it.
The XF is a fantastic car to drive, for those who haven't, and the looks really grow on you after a while.
Whichever you go for, you won't be disappointed, but if you want power go for the V8's, if you want more economy, go for the Diesel - sounds obvious, and it is really.

Yes but with the competition (notably BMW) you can have power AND economy. Don't get me wrong I really like the XF and probably would have bought one if there was a high powered diesel available.Jag World mag were themselves commenting this month on the need for Jag to get on with some new engines. But the tie up with Ford to supply engines will no doubt be a problem to this independence.
The 3.0ltr TDV6 is only a tweaked unit, we need a whole new V8, both petrol and diesel.
