My better half is very keen on a Jaguar to run around in, she's never forgiven me for selling my XJ-S years ago! An X300 seems pretty good but I need to know the width of the rear seat to see if we can fit 3 child seats across there.

Current car is a Mitsubishi Galant and 3 seats just squeeze in. Doing the seatbelts is a bit tricky but if it avoids MPV hell, it's worth it.

Does anyone have a road test magazine or something where this is measured? The AA site is normally good for this but they only list the XJ40 and the current XJ.

Thanks in advance!

I've just measured mine for you. I made it 55.5" across. I've not tried 3 full child seats but 3 boosters is fine. Remember that an X300 only has a lap belt in the middle.
The X300 is much wider inside than the misses E-Class MB (2001 shape).

Wow, that's what I call service - thank you! The Mitsubishi is 54 inches so it should be feasible. Thanks for the note about centre lap belt, hopefully it shouldn't be impossible to fit a shoulder belt somehow.

You could try talking to "Reflex Safety Systems" They fitted seat belts into my 1958 XK150 and did a lovely job. They had a subsidiary "Quickfit SBS Ltd" (nothing to do with Kwik fit) that specialised in classic cars, I'm not sure whether that is still running, the website seems to be pointing at a aggregation now and I seem to remember seeing something about Stuart Quick wanting to sell the business.

I also seem to remember there were some child seats on the market that could be secured properly with just a lap belt.

When I had a long run in with the Dept. for Transport about child seating the other company they suggested I talked to were "The In-Car Safety Centre" based in Milton-Keynes. The woman I spoke to there seemed to be very knowledgeable about the seats available on the market.

Quick correction, they seem to have lost control of "http://www.quickfitsbs.co.uk/" but "http://www.quickfitsbs.com" is OK
