Hi folks,

I'm hoping soon to realise a lifetime ambition and purchase a Jaguar XJ8 circa 1998-2001 but am a little confused by the difference between the Sovereign and Executive models. I have pretty much decided to try and get a 4.0 litre and it must be a short wheelbase because I think the LWB while improving interior space considerably spoils the lines of the car.

Can anyone help out by letting me know the differences with the Sovereign - is the walnut veneer or leather etc better quality for example?

Also does anyone know if there are many Jag events where I could get along, chat to owners and see some cars rather like the TVR car club I belong to.

Many thanks - I look forward to joining you all soon!

A Sovereign was the posher model.
If you look on the www.jag-lovers.org website you should be able to find the brochures.

There are two main Jaguar owners clubs.

The Jaguar Drivers Club (JDC) http://jaguardriver.co.uk/html/ and
The Jaguar Enthusiasts Club (JEC) http://www.jec.org.uk

I initially joined both, but the JDC doesn't seem very active in my area so I eventually dropped that one. In others areas it's the JDC that is more active. Lowdrag is an active JDC member.

Drivers of all types of Jaguars are welcome at the meetings I've been to. X308s & X300 are generally regarded as definite future classics, the last of the sleek low slung saloons.

Have a look at which club is most active in your area.

Oh, yes and if you are looking at an V8 you need to read Broadbean747's posting summarising the problems the engines have had.

Many thanks for the reply Hex. I have now managed to locate the factory brochures on the site you suggested and very informative it is too. I have also found Broadbean's post very informative.

I will check out the JEC.

Thanks again,
