Hello to all
Just though i'd test the water....have just sold my caterham due to lack of use (1st baby arrived earlier in year) and am looking for a car that is a bit more usable. This is to be a weekend car only. The Jag XKR convertible seems to tick all my boxes as I want a quick/comfortable/fun open top vehicle that I can uses in winter months & also for longer journeys.

Am going to view a 2003 XKR convertible (27000 miles) at a dealer near B'ingham on friday.

anything I should keep an eye out for?

Nope. Just the usual things, FJSH, all recalls complete, crash free, accident damage free etc. If it looks tired it probably is. The 4.2ltr/6spd is pretty much bullet proof. Nothing to worry about there. Check everything works and that the the belts aren't squeaky on start up (if they are get them sorted!) and that the suspension bushings aren't worn. (Rubber perishes, you may hear clunking over bumps, easy fix, but better to get it sorted before pick up.)

Do some research about the optional extras available on these cars. Unless it is a 'limited edition', which tend to have all the toys included, these cars are quite bespoke. So make sure it has on it what you want.

Enjoy.

If you've got a little one, are you hoping to carry them in the XKR?
I couldn't find a way to get a child seat into the back when I looked a few years ago. You might have more luck now, maybe the new children in cars legislation has prompted a manufacture to make a more coupe friendly seat.

not planning in having the little fella in the back untill he is in a forward facing seat.
the vehicle i'm looking at has all the toys that i would like, as with every thing you have to sacrafice a few things to gain others. I personally like/wanted blue with cream/ivory interior.
The dealer won't budge at all on the price so what other things should i try and squeeeezzzzeee out of them.

He won't budge on price, coz he knows you want it!

Is it a Jag main dealer? If so you will have the 12months Jag warranty. In that case I would push for an extension, they can be much more economical to buy a 2 or 3 year extended warranty. You will also have the 30 day exchange policy for peace of mind.

I would assume you will be paying around £27-29k for it?

Good luck, is it zircon blue or dark blue?

Is there a handy list somewhere of all (convertible) XKR and XK8 recall notices going back to 2002?

I found this summary by AutoExpress

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/carreviews/usedcartes...

...but it seems incomplete: for example, no reference to this

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/EDITORIAL/CARS/news/24...

(and no mention in the history about the 2003 facelift).

Added: AA website looks as good a source as anywhere:
http://www.theaa.com/allaboutcars/recalls/index.js...
It lists only the gearbox recall for XKRs (and a couple of others for early XK8s).

That's a good price from a main dealer. thumbup

Must be a list somewhere, but it's easiest to get the service manager at the dealership to enter the VIN number and see if anything gets thrown up.
