Looking to upgrade my insurance from 1997 XK8 coupe to 2002 XKR convertible, I was pleasantly surprised by the quote - £340 for fully comp (max no claims, annual mileage 3000, doddery old codger) - but it came with a £500 excess as standard. Is this kind of excess normal? Anyone got a better deal anywhere?

You could try this link to the LV through the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club
http://www.jaguar-enthusiasts.org.uk/jaguar-insura... Scroll down to the London Victoria script and click on 'Get a quote' you should get a good quote. You shoud be able to choose your excess.

I always go for the £500 axcess, as you get a better quote and would you want to loose your NC for the sake of a few £££s

I've just insured my XKR with Hagerty. The excess is £400.

I need to put this straight. Liverpool Victoria's online quote was a bare-bones figure which doesn't even include no-claims protection, hence deceptively low. Having now compared several real-world quotes I have done far better with More Than who have quoted me £290 fully comp with full NCD, cover abroad, courtesy car, etc, etc - and even another named driver thrown in at no extra cost. Admittedly this is on a low annual mileage estimate of 3000 and a hefty £600 excess, but even so... And this was on a £25k 2004 XK convertible.

I feel the need to add that all their enquiries are handled by an Indian call centre which is miles better than any other call centre I have ever dealt with, in the UK or anywhere else. I have spoken to three different people there and each of them had a) excellent and well-spoken English; b) exceptional knowledge at their fingertips; and c) a very courteous and pleasing manner. Bowled over, I was.
