Does anyone make a reasonably priced aftermarket system for a 1995 XJR? The standard system on mine is looking a bit sorry, and the mild steel replacement looks to be what I'd call ludicrously expensive for mild steel (around £500) so I was wondering if anyone makes an aftermarket one for less, or whether any of you guys have had Powerflow or similar exhausts custom made for this car and if so, what it cost you?

Hi There,
Powerflow can be quite cheap if you just want something to replace the std exhaust. However make sure you get a quotation beforehand as all Powerflow dealers (depending on where they are) can and do charge differently.
Not sure where you are, but I used the one in St Albans Hertfordshire; as they were much better priced that the one nearest to me in Kingsbury.
I have used them on a few cars and have always been pleased with the results, and NEVER had any problems. The stainless steel that they make them from seem good quality and the finish is always good! Plus you can choose the sound level you prefer, and the style of tail pipes that you want from the countless examples they have in stock!
Can't remember what the cost was but give them a call.

I'm planning on popping in there for a quote as it's actually my local powerflow dealer, only about 15 mins drive from me. I had a manifold-back system from them on my old 200sx and it only cost me about £250 just after they'd opened. Bet the Jag will cost a few quid more though, hence why I'm looking around.Powerflow can be quite cheap if you just want something to replace the std exhaust. I had a custom system made by Kevin at zeroexhausts.co.uk (Ashford, Kent), from the downpipe back bypassing the centre cats* (don't need these for the MOT).
Really pleased with it. Top shiny 304 SS throughout. Used the existing tailpipe trims so looks stock. 25yr g'tee. About £800. Took him about a week. The guy is a perfectionist!
Same silencers as std, but straight through instead of baffled. No louder than standard, but now sounds terrific on acceleration. All pipes mandrel formed in 2.25" (ample) and silencers all hand made from scratch.
- Those centre cats are prone to blowing, are restrictive, and replacements are over £1000 from Jag.
Looks good, but I still can't believe the prices these days. My car only cost a shade over £2k so I'm loathed to spend more than £500 on an exhaust for it! Powerflow in St Albans charged me £250 for my last manifold back system from them, and now they want £600 plus VAT... strikes me they hear the word Jaguar and assume price gouging is going to work...

It might be a "badge" thing but the Jag has basically twice as much engine to exhaust as the SX200 so you'd expect it to be twice the price wouldn't you?The Jag system is long, with 4 silencers, and the two hoops over the back axle are tricky to fabricate and fit.
You can buy an off the shelf full (downpipe back) system for over £1200 (can't remember where); pattern part mild steel is also over £1000.
Makes a proper custom built solution better value.
Although these cars are cheap as chips now, they were £50k new a few years ago, with parts prices to match.
Another gratuitous shot, this time the mid silencers forward, including cat replacement pipe:

Running back from this is the over-axle pipes then rear silencers. It's a lot of stainless steel!

That looks like a nice bit of work.
I'm still far too poor to spend the best part of a grand on an exhaust though, especially for a 2 grand car! Might see if I can get the necessary bits to get someone to fabricate the cat replacement out of mild steel, and stick with standard mid and back boxes.
