2nd question - what goes "CLUNK" on your rear offside when you reverse your 1998 XK8 more then a few yards?

The sound is deep and meaningful - not like running over a tin can, more like someone spearing
the car from below !
Also, there is a loud and angry "hum" from the whole car (sometimes) when I choose reverse. Sounds like it's coming from the brakes
but (even as a total non mechanic) intuition tells me that ain't it...

Any ideas ?

I was looking forward to the xkec event on Saturday but with this noise I daren't drive the car.
As I said I'm no mechanic and for me It's a proper scary sound. All and any advice very gratefully received.

Sounds like my problem, clunk in reverse, clunk going around left hand bends, clunk when setting off hard from standing start, oil all over diff and exhaust baffles.

I think mine is the diff.....

Big clunk could potentially be a serious problem such as loose or worn diff mounts or suspension bushes. Time to get a mechanic to listen from the outside I would say.
