Window with mind of its own !!
Discussion
The drivers window on my 6 month old XK intermittently decides to descend of its own accord after reaching the top on closing. If I try and close it again the same thing happens four or five times and eventually it will stay closed. I took it to the dealer and explained all this in detail emphasizing that it was an intermittent fault and I didnt want to collect it that eve with the fault either undiagnosed or not fixed.
True to form, when I went to pick the car up,I was informed that as they hadnt been able to replicate the fault there was nothing they could do.
Now I'm not technical but surely there must be a sensor or something to prevent the window closing on a hand. Perhaps this is causing it, and it seems to be getting more frequent. Worryingly it also happened on one occasion as I was parking up. Luckily I noticed or could quite happily have left the car with window open.
Booked in again tomorrow but I dont feel confident.
Any ideas ??
Thanks

Sounds like it's binding up just before the sensor that lowers it incase of obstruction thinking it's shut. I had this on a BMW, and my current Audi does it occasionally. Repeated closure attempts make the problem go away (temporarily) - hence why the dealer probably couldn't find the problem.
The question arises as to whether they even actually tried it out to see if the problem exists. Try showing them yourself and then they can't argue. Perhaps it only occurs when driving due to bumpy roads tricking the sensor so it might pay to go for a drive with one of their mechanics to see if you can replicate it.

Well the dealer had it for the day again yesterday and claimed they couldnt find the fault. As soon as I went out to the car I tried it, yep the window came down. Went to get the service manager to show him. We sat there for 10 mins operating the window and nothing, perfect every time. Apparently there are four thing which it could be according to Jaguar, as they have had a similar problem with the convertible. So its booked in again for all the parts to be changed. fingers crossed. LT, there's a method for resetting the windows anti-trap sensor on my S-Type R, which I'm not sure if it's applicable on your car, but perhaps you can give it a try?
With the window down, press and hold the switch to close it. When it closes, CONTINUE to hold the switch for another 2 seconds. Let go for 2 seconds. Then press it again (like you want to close it regardless of it already being closed), and hold for another 2 seconds. Let go. That should be it. It should then open and close correctly with one touch, and anti-trap should also operate correctly.
Again, not sure if this will work on your car, but it's possible, perhaps these kind of things are the same across the models range.
