pub talk time.. friends 911 3.6 tip has a top speed of 171mph, he thinks the XKR should have a greater top speed, question is how fast can it go?! if the limiter was removed? 170mph? 175mph? i think the 5speed is geared for 32mph per 1000rpm in 5th. i would have though 170mph should be possible?

Cheers NST

Just done a run on the German Autobahn, and was able to do a true 170 mph (about 285 km/h on the speedo) but hit the speed limiter there. My car has much more performance than a stock XKR but I think you could reach that speed also if the circumstances are right with a stock XKR ;-).

My XKR has been speed de-limited.

Some time ago the speedo position was where 185 mph would have been if it was printed on the speedo, also the rev counter needle was in the correct place for that speed with a 5 speed gearbox. Unfortuneatly I didn't have GPS then so can't confirm.

But last year I took my car to the JEC Speedtrail with official speeds given at a 1.5 mile marker, that showed I was travering at 162.4mph at that point.
I had to the brake as I was running out of runway but given more length of run the car would have been going quicker.

It is surpriseng just how far one travels in a short period of time at those speeds

I will be going again this year and with my latest upgrades hope to go faster.

Please not these speeds were either in Germany or on private land.

wow, 185mph! that must be close to max revs or atleast above 5500rpm! had no idea it was capable of that sort of speed lol! how did the car handle at such speeds? was it still stable above 155mph?

As you can see by the photo taken by sl55kleemann on the LeMans Thread on my way down to the LeMans 24Hr race I have an Arden body kit fitted, also lowered with wheel spacers and wider tyres.

Not to mention modified steering, gearbox and brakes, so yes it was stable at speed.

modified steering/gearbox? what has been done? i like the gear alot but i find that when 'pressing' on it can be alittle slow to change gears. the steering at low speeds is far to light! lol!

can the wheel spacers be used on the 20inch alloys?! does it help with the road holding?

cheers

The steering has been modified to give more weight and feel, this is very helpfull at speed, I have had a switch installed as well so the steering can revert back for town driving or parking.

The gearbox mod is to be able to select what gear I want with buttons on the steering wheel like the later XKRs in a way a clutchless manual gearbox.

I am not shure what space there is with 20" wheels but I would think that you coud fit 15mm spacers, I would not go as far as to say the roadholding will improve that much but it does help with the wheels filling the arches better.

My man that looks after my car now is a VERRY GOOD independant, if you want to have a chat with him you can get him on 0118-973-779 he is just north of Blackbush airport allong the A30 the other side of Camberley in Surrey.

Well worth a phone call if you want to improve your Jaguar or just a service.

Norman from the telephone number I assume your "Man" is Tom Lenthal. However whats special about him? Cheap, good service or what? I ask because I have just bought an XK8 & want the usual suspects checked (i.e. tensioners, chains, water pump etc).

PS his Web Site is not functioning!

Yes, that is who he is.
He knows the site is not working, he has got someone else to do a new site for him now.

He has had a number of years in the Jag trade and can sort early Jags though to the latest. He has good contacts for parts, standard and modified.

In fact I know that some of the well known Jaguar Service names in the area ask him to sort out problems they have with customer cars.

His prices are good, I would not say the cheepest as there will always be someone cheeper but no way neer the ususal prices one can pay. As I said befor he is an expert on Jaguars.
