I've always fancied one and I'm really tempted now that prices seem so low. I've been watching prices for late model XJ308's non nikasil cars and some are going in the £6k-£7k range...inc a few really nice ones on eBay.
Can anyone shed any light on what real life prices the trade are paying for them in these times of economic woes ?
I suspect those in the trade are struggling to shift them?
thx

I own a 2000 steel lined XJR and work in the motor trade, so I know a bit about them! Prices have fallen in recent months because the trade guides have written their value down at the same rate as the ordinary saloons. August is a quiet time for the motor trade - holidays, new registrations coming up that sort of thing - so don't expect the decline in prices to continue dramaticlly in the next few months. A sub 100k miles XJR is still good news on a forecourt where normal big cars are struggling, so don't expect dealers to crumble. Older Nikasil lined cars are cheap and are struggling as the more sought after 2000 cars are becoming an affordable option. Mine was worth 9k retail last year, now it is worth around 6.5k as you suggest, although the trade guides still say it is worth 8k retail - the market suggests otherwise. Bit of a bargain considering what you get for the money
If you're looking to make some offers for cars just bang them in and see what happens. What dealers will have paid for them will vary one hell of a lot so it's almost impossible to second guess them. One things for sure they won't be finding them easy to shift, even more so if they are post 2001 cars.
ps, don't forget about the timing chain tensioner issues on the V8's

Sign of the times ...desperation!!!

Just received a reply to my email asking if the above mentioned cheapy had any issues, i have cut and paste it from my inbox:
Hello,
Thank you for your email. I can tell you that the car is in perfect condition. Never involved in accidents. I take good care of it and i can tell you for sure that if you will purchase the car from me you will be more then satisfied with it. It runs great and it comes with all the original papers and documents. I am selling this car for the listed price including delivery anywhere in UK.I set at a "very, very low" price to guarantee a sale. The only reason is that I need cash for a family emergency. I have to tell you that I'm currently out of town with some major problems so pick up/view isn't an option. If you want to buy this vehicle email me back with your full name and address to start the official procedure trough PistonHeads. They will send you a notification with ALL the info regarding delivery, purchase protection and refund policy so please provide your details before more questions. You will find 90% of answers in that notification from Pistonheads!
Hmmmm, what do you guys think?
Some sort of scam to get names and addresses?
