Jag XJ6 1995 for 1500 pounds.... Possible OR a Money pit????

Hi guys, and many regards from sunny Greece!! I 'm here for the summer and enjoying every minute of it!
I have the following question:
I was going through the adds on autotrader, and show many Jag's XJ6 years 1994-5, around 1500-2000 pounds, claiming to be in very good condition and ready to be driven!
1) From your experience, do you think that it is possible to find a good XJ6 of years 1994-6, for <2000 pounds without needing major repairs and a big amount of money to spend on it???
2)If yes, is such a car expensive to maintain and prone to any major issues, or it has reasonable maintenance costs???
3)How fast are the XJ6's of these years?? Do they have any sport elements in their driving or they lack the driving thrills ???\

1995 XJs were vastly improved to those from around pre-1992. Ford money had allowed Jag engineers to sort many of the famous problems. Rust, elctronics and other common problems are mostly gone after 1992. IIRC, the 1995 XJ will have the same AJ16 engine in the 95 XJS. If so, then it is a fine engine. However, for 150 Pounds, I would fear something is unquestionably wrong and tend to stay clear.
Now, on another note, even if it did not work at all, virtually any one or two parts from that would recoup your price. On second thought, for that price, buy it....you can't go wrong....parts alone would put you ahead.

I think he means £1500, not £150.
Anyway, I think its perfectly possible to pick up a good one for these sort of prices, just check the buying guides and look through previous threads.
Remember, many people will be trying to get rid now because of the price of the old unleaded.

I had a XJ40 XJ6 Sport, 94 model, before the facelit.
It was a nice car, didn't have any rust on the body, however the laquer was lifting in a couple of places.
Drivers seat was worn, it had done 100k, but still a nice drive. by the time I sold it, it had no MOT and needed work on the rear suspensin, as well as new pads, dics, and exhaust.
I sold it.
Still it was lovely to drive.

I've had four XJ6's over the years, all bought at about 10 years old. Look for best condition and service history. I always checked the fuses, relays and connectors. It's wise to clean and lubricate them. Running these cars is not expensive if you can do most of the maintenance yourself. Parts and labour are usually over-inflated for Jaguars when taking them to a garage, and don't even think about main dealers!
The most major problem I ever had was wheel bearings, heavy duty ones are available. I never had any trouble with engine, gearbox or final drive.
I wish I'd bought one this year instead of splashing out on the MG estate!
