4.0 XJ8 Power Output

Hi,

I've recently purchased an XJ 4L which was sold as being the 290bhp. There now appears to be a bit of confusion as to whether or not it has the 245bhp engine or the 290bhp. Is there a way I can check for sure?

As far as I know the XJ8 had 290BHP the XJR (with the Supercharger) had 370BHP

The XJ8 would end up with something like 245HP at the rear wheels

If you have the 4.0 litre 6 cylinder model - designated XJ6 or X300 and produced from 1994 to 1997, then the figure for BHP is 245.

If you have the 4.0 litre V8 engined car - designated XJ8 or X308 and produced from 1997 to 2003, then the figure is 290 BHP.

Lots of Jaguar XJ owners identify their cars by the factory designation - X300 - X308 - X350 and so on rather than saying XJ6 or XJ8 as there are several different models all badged the same dating back to 1968.

Which gets a bit somtimes.
