Hi - having just brought my second XJ40, love it apart from the fact the exterior drivers door handle doesn't work. I presume this is due to the connectors inside the door coming adrift.

In addition to this the driver's electric window doesn't work, press the switch and nothing happens.

My question for the collective is.. can I just swap out the good parts from the passengers door into the drivers door? Are drivers and passengers components interchangable? Passenger door far less critical and far easier to just open from inside.

I presume these will be
- outside door handle
- internal door handle mechanism?
- electric window motor

Thoughts appreciated - I rarely get the chance to visit breakers/don't have the time to sort parts, and this seems like a satisfactory bodge for the time being..

The time consuming bit will be getting into the door workings without damaging the trim and then putting it all together again. Swapping the knackered parts will take seconds.

I suggest you get the parts off ebay or somewhere like Berkshire Jag Compnents and then you only have to dismantle one door and end up with everything working.

Your suggestion just seems like more work and still leaves the same job to do at a later date.
