I am looking at buying a 53 plate XJR. Looks like a good car, 53k, FJSH one ownership, good spec, flawless interior etc....can anyone advise about the main areas I should keep eyes open for.

I currently have an 02 3.2 XJ8 Sport, so the marque is not alien to me. But I'd appreciate guidance from any owners/mechanics.

I've also considered a 4.2l XJ8 as well, but can't help feeling, i should just stop messing around and go for the blower. Discuss...

Cheers,

Paul

No problems i can think of off the top of my head. Check usual tyres and brakes, afterall they are quick cars.

Does it have Jaguar warranty at all?

No Jag warranty, but it's all too late now. I've bought it. Test drive did it really.

It's mental. I'm already worried that when I come to change it in a few years, that I'll never get anything as quick and refined for sub-£15k.

I doubt if you will ever make a better decision. Not worth considering an XJ with the smaller engine if you can get an R. Look after it though and make sure its properly maintained, and keep an ear open for tapping noises when you start the car up, in case its the timing chain tensioners. Its unlikely to happen, but if it does its not an issue if you catch it quickly.
Apart from that, its like a magic carpet. Brilliant brilliant car.
