Hi you lot,

How accurate do you think the fuel computer is?? I know some members have said that they only get 27 - 30 on the motorway, well I've just come back home on the M11, not too quick - 60 -70 mph, flat road and the average mpg read out said 32 - 34mpg!! mmmmm, well, I would like to believe it, lol.. is it conceivable that it's NOT telling porkies??

Sounds too good to be true to me. I had a 2002 3.2 Sport and using cruise set 80mph I could only ever get 26mpg at very, very best.

There could be a big difference between 80 and 60.

A typical car uses 25% more fuel going at 70mph rather then 60mph (which is about 15% faster)

I have always wondered about fuel computers, they know exactly how fast the car is going (by gear and rev counter) and exactly how much fuel is being used (the ECU very carefully meters it out, plus you have the MAF & Lambda sensor if you get stuck) so how can they not be accurate? Unless someone has stuck silly big wheels on their car of course...

There was negligible difference between 70 & 80mph fuel consumption on my 3.2
