Hi,

I'm thinking of buying a 2002 X-Type with 87k miles as a 'cheap' winter runabout. I know they've had a bit of a slating from some quarters - esp with references to Mondeos, but I took it for a drive and (for the money) was impressed.

I know nothing about these cars really - is there anything particular I should look out for e.g. major impending scheduled service etc?

Cheers

Very nice cars, and a bargain. My 3.0 SE is up for sale at the moment (ebay auction ending tonight) as I need a newer car, but have really enjoyed it. The car drives very well, makes a nice noise and you get all the toys for a fraction of the cost of high spec Mercedes or BMW.

Cheers, I'll have a look on ebay out of interest. The one I was looking at was a 2.5 V6.

Bargains galore. I have run a 2.5 V6 Sport as a daily car with no problems whatsoever except consumables. Lovely place to sit and supremely comfortable on long trips. I advertised mine on the trader at 3999 with 60k on the clock and have had very little interest, so bargain very hard when buying.

Yeah, seems like it. Was offered the car first mentioned with FSH, black with black leather, immaculate. £2300!

I would try and go for the sport if you can. They did command a small premium when I was looking but with prices so deflated now you'll probably find any premium would be a few hundred quid at most.

I looked for ages for the right car and any at reasonable money were gone within a day of being advertised. Now I have come to sell it looks like I will have to give it away. The residuals on the diesels appear stronger (and they are a superb engine in the x-type) but that means as a cheap second hand buy the initial outlay is a few grand more than a petrol - and with fuel prices not quite so mental now that probably doesnt seem so attractive.

but it says £2500 and no offers in your ad wink

I see you are selling a 996 too - is it a fake GT3? If so, can you post/email me a link to the ad?

Incidentally, you say on the Jag ad that you think its too nice for you to use as a roundabout and wanting a p/x for a cheaper car. Given you are willing to let it go for £1500, surely its you wont find much cheaper and you may as well use the Jag? As you say, they drive great, mine has been wholly reliable and they make a superb day to day runaround.
