Thinking of a few subtle mods, poss help needed?
Discussion
Evening all, I'm thinking of lowereing my X-Type estate 2-3 inches and replaceing the wheels with a set of black and chrome BBS style wheels, maybe a few other touches inc, smoked windows and lights?
Let me first point out i'm no CHAV! i have modified cars for the last 15 years and this is the only car i have never played with, even the porsche ended up with a few things done.
Now what i was going to ask is there anyone who has lowered a X-Type? what does it handle like and did they have any issues?
As mine is a sport it has 17" wheels, so i was thinking of going to a 18-19"? again any known issues?
one last thing?
If i post some pics of the family wagon and the wheels i was thinking of can someone have a little photo shop number on it to give me an idea of what it may look like?
I'd be gratefull of any help guys cheers.

2 to 3 inches? Blimey...that's quite a lot and will take you into hitting speed bump territory. You will have to considerably up rate the spring and damper rates to limit suspension travel if you go that low, which will utterly ruin ride quality.
There are a number of compamies who offer lower height springs for Jaguars - but to my knowledge nobody goes that low. Try XKZ Zarhan or Parmount Performance.
If you fit larger diameter wheels then you'd need to find out how much clearance you have under the arches to decide what profile tyres you need to keep a similar rolling radius and you'll need to do this in conjunction with whatever ride height and spring rate you choose. Any tyre less than around 50 profile will have a noticable effect on ride quality, and will be much harder on suspension components.
Google TRC Tyre Calculator and The Wheel and Tyre Bible for more info on changing wheel and profile sizes.
I'd try to have a drive in a modified car and talk to a specalist company before I decided to spend a lot of cash on modifications. Subltey is often the best route IMO, with a slight change in damper rates and careful choice of tyres making a noticable difference.
Making sure the car's existing suspension components and tyres are in excellent condition and the alignment is perfect is essential before you start.

Just my 2p about Paramount performance, they have a great reputation, but their mark up is horrendous. For example a BMC air filter from Paramount will set you back £268.00 excluding delivery. You can buy one elsewhere for £150 delivered. They'll also charge you £58 to fit said air filter even though it's only a 10 minute job even if you've never done one before.
I'm well aware of the Jaguar premium. But £348p/h rate for fitting air filters is a little excessive if you ask me.
In terms of parts costing my advice is that if you want to modify your Jag do a lot of shopping around as a lot of companies are trying to screw us. Unfortunately importing from the US was usually your best bet but with the poor exchange rate that's no longer an option.

just flicking through eBay, found some springs in the u.s, they give a 1.4 drop, so I'll see what that will look like.
Tyres and wheel combo will be the trickiest bit, in my experiance once you get the ride height right then look at the size of the wheels, I have heard that there's a problem going larger than 17" on the rear? Anyone heard of this?
