2004 XKR dash fascia
Discussion
Hi,
Just paid my deposit and as of next Weds will own an 04 XKR Cabrio in black!
And so the questions start... I have the elm dash but may prefer the birds eye maple (with ivory leather?) or maybe even brushed alloy or piano black. The question therefore is; are these fascias avaliable aftermaket to swap out? Googling has produced nothing so far...
TIA

So it is doable - but at what price? And anyone know where i can posurce a facsia myself? Breakers? Afetrmarket?
A dealer told me that it would cost £1200 for a new fascia plus 6 hours labour which seemed outrageous on both counts. However, same dealer also confidently said the XJ weighs one ton, yes one ton as it's aluminium. So I have some doubts with regard to his knowledge!

TBH, you can get aftermarket wood trim kits, but they will be no where near as good as the Jag product, and will devalue your car. You could find a breakers and rip the wood out, (being very carful not to kill yourself with the airbags going off!) IMHO you should have bought a car which you liked the wood, or live with it. Elm is only found on the last edition XKR-S, or do you mean the burr walnut, which I am not a fan of either?

It's probably burr walnut then. I like it, but would prefer the piano black or even the walnut stained darker. There aren't that many cars about to be honest, I got the one I wanted in black with the right wheels and a sports exhaust found near where I was working. I will see if I can live with it! My father is actually a furniture expert so we are looking at doing this... just wondering how hard it is to get the wood off the fascia?
And these aftermarkets kits... do you have a link?
Thanks

For pity's sake man, you are going to ruin a superb car. I used to have an '05 XKR Coupe before I got credit crunched, and it was superb, the only thing wrong was it had grey stained maple veneer, when I would really have wanted elm or walnut, Incidentally, I am certain that I have seen XKR's not 4.2S LE's which had elm. In fact I think there is one a hundred yards from where I am sitting.
Your car sounds perfect the way it is. The thought of paying a fortune to change it, or your dad, the part time french polisher, setting about it with a sincere but daft grin on his face makes me cringe.
Do yourself a huge favour and leave the thing be.
