My son has just bought an X300 sovereign with a cassette player fitted as per original. He wants to keep the original player. How easy (difficult!) is it to fit an autochanger in the boot and which one would you guys recommend? I am slightly nervous about removing headlining etc to run wires the length of the car, is it possible to fit an autochanger in the glovebox? (looks pretty small to me)

Many Thanks

The autochanger units come up on eBay quite frequently.
You might find the wiring is already in place. When I bought my car from a main dealer (back in 96) they were quite happy to fit the autochanger without any labour charge.

It should already have a 6cd changer fitted in the boot. Original place was on the underside of the back shelf. Are the wires & brackets still there?

Apparently the wires are there so should just be a case of plugging one in (famous last words!).

Thanks guys

On my XJ40, XJ6, the wire were already in place I jsut bought an Alpine CD changer off ebay for about £8. It wasn't a Jag branded one mind, but work none the less.

Don't bother buying a Jaguar branded one as it's going to be old, secondhand, and a silly price for what it is. It's only an Alpine unit anyway. I bought a brand new Alpine CHM-S630 6 disc changer for my X300 XJR, for about £45 on ebay. It plugged straight in to the Jag loom and works perfectly with the factory head unit. If you look under the horizontal panel between the rear window and the boot, to the drivers side, you will see a few holes with captive nuts. These are the factory mounting points for the changer. I did have to play around to get my changer to mount in the correct place, but a little bit of thought and ingenuity sorted that out fine. The CHM-S630 is slightly narrower than the Jag unit.
Make sure you get a changer that uses the Alpine DIN plug and not the Alpine "inet" system. The inet is a fibre optic link and will not work in the X300.

ETA: I can take and post some pics of my installation if you want.
