xj8 3.2 1999 engine stalling problem
Discussion
Hi - hope someone can help - my 1999 3.2 XJ8 has developed an intermittent problem. When starting from cold, or hot, it sometimes stalls unless I put my foot on the accelerator pedal then when I take my foot off the pedal the revs drop low and bounce and sometimes the engine stalls. I have been told it could be the throttle sensor or throttle valve? Any help would be so very much appreciated - thanks to all in anticipation - Nikki
Take off the air intake duct and have a look inside the throttle body. It may be there is a build up of contanimation preventing accurate control of the throttle butterfly at very small openings.
A good clean with carburettor cleaner and a carefull wipe round the edge of the butterfly may be all that's needed.
