What is typical Indi cost of replacement chains and clutch on 3 litre AWD and when are they typically due?

Any other expenses likely to cost over say £150 doing 1k mls per month (..other than fuel..)

Any good Indi maintenance / sales near Northants?

Isn't the clutch a pain to get to and requires half the engine off??

I don't think you need to have any concerns about timing chains on the X Type - that's a V8 problem usually because the secondary tensioners fail.

Clutch life will depend entirely on how the car has been driven. I've known some customers get as little as 10,000 miles or well over 100,000 miles out of a clutch, so it's hard to predict.

Have a look on Honest John's (Daily Telegraph) site. There's a lot of useful X Type info on there

I had a 3.0 Auto I ran from 49k miles to 85k. No real problems, but did have odd gear-changes every now and again. Long-life plugs need to be changed at 60k miles - They are a real pain to get out (expect close to an hours labour just for that). I had a problem with Headlight bulbs (I used to average 1 a month), they are a real pain to get in, literally and had to pop in to my mechanic who got one of his young (small handed guys) to do it for me. Thats it really. In the 2 and a half years, I needed to buy a new battery for the car, change the one in a key-fob (which needed to be reprogrammed) and thats it.
