BHP Mods for the 3.0 SE Auto S- Type
Discussion
I have a S-Type 3.0 SE Face lift registered 11/03
The motor is in as factory standard form
What options do i have to increase HP ?
Is it worth looking at Breathing K&N ? Or an ECU chip ? if so what can i expect HP increase and how much please
Has anyone gone down this road ?
Any info or suggestions please Gratefully Received
Pasco
NB If i had realised how good the mpg was on the V6 i would have brought a V8 powered motor

Can't really comment on your engine specifically mate but I can say from experience to be wary of "induction kits" and the like. Whilst I think K&N replacement panel filters do offer a mild improvement (as long as they are properly maintained) induction kits and the like tend to take air from the surrounding of the engine and so intake warmer air = less dense = less power. Although this can be less of an issue at speed depending on the car.
Even the XJR models with their very restrictive set ups porbably don't benefit from cheaper induction kits for this reason. With the exception of less restrictive induction that feeds cold air from the front of the car using like the one offered by Paramount Performance they may actually reduce power.
Remap/Nitrous would be your best bet. Or save up for the S-Type R or V8 models. They're becoming increasingly cheap.

Pasco,
I'd agree with GT's last statement. I have had two S-Type V8 SEs, the latest being a 4.2 that I've owned from almost new (it was a demo car, 14 miles on the clock) since February 2004, and still have it. 300 BHP is significantly better than the V6. And the STR is even better of course. All the S-Type V8s are good value now so why not do a deal rather than play around with the V6?

Thanks for the comments chaps
I totally agree with both of your comments regarding the V8 motor but i was just interested to know what i could expect with a re chip etc.
In the TVR 5.0 Ltr V8 world the rule of the thumb is £100 per HP.
Has anyone re chipped a 3 ltr V6 ? to what costs and results i wonder

It won't cost you £100/HP if you go the way of forced induction though mate. Par example on my car before I found cheaper parts elsewhere;
Pulley upgrade ~20bhp £300 (Paramount £300 + VAT)
-BMC induction ~12bhp £200 (Paramount £250 + VAT)
-De-cat pipes ~13bhp ~£400 (Stainless steel creations)
-Remap ~25bhp ~£300 (Paramount £500 + VAT)
Total ~60bhp ~£1200
-20% Bulls
t factor = 48bhp. £20/bhp (1200/60)
~413bhp
(Based on new from factory spec.)
Edit: Just to clarify I had this written down elsewhere and I know it isn't that accurate!

If you search back through the forum there is a very detailed history of the engine, from the sounds of it written by someone involved in the project somewhere along the line. The block is from the Ford "Duratec" (or some such) engine, the heads were specific to Jaguar as where the internals of the engine. The block seems able to take a huge amount of tuning, the Noble guys get well over 500BHP out of it. The Jonathan Palmer single seaters use the Jaguar version of the engine.
Sorry I can't remember who wrote the article.

So talking of forced induction is anyone aware of any tuners who have done a Turbo or Supercharger job on the 3.0Ltr V6 S-Type Jag ?
I am sure that Elite Performance did a Turbo or Superchager conversion on a 3.0 Ltr X-Type a few years agoPasco said:
