I'm a bit confused as to the model designation of my XJ8.

It's a Jan 2000 model and has X300 on the plate at front of the engine bay and it deffo has the minor facelift styling (inc rear lights etc) to it.

This is where I get confused - everywhere I go I see that the X308 ran from 1997 to 2002.
Was there some cross-over?

Can anyone throw some light on model designations etc?

cheers

smile

It's a 308.

300's were phased out in 97.

300's had 6 or 12 cylinder engines. Obvious visible differences are that the 308 has a rounder grille, the chrome on the bumpers does not extend around the whole bumper and the dash is totally different (rounder instead of square).

another easy way to tell - 308's have oval indicators (on the front bumper) and reflectors on the sides (on both bumpers), 300's were rectangular.

And probably the easiest way of all is that V8 engined cars had a V8 badge between the front and rear doors, molded into the window trims. Well at least my 1998 XJR did have.

I think, correct me if I'm talking rubbish!! biggrin

I've just had another look at your photo.... the winng mirror is JUST in the way to see if it's there or not.

Nah, it's not a "big" V8.
It's a moderately sized V8, sure...but not big

Sorry I must have meant big in terms of v8 power per litre.

I see your 58bhp/litre and raise you 95bhp/litre.

You and your naturally aspirated aussie wagons! Pfft. All bark and no bite wink
