I visited the Jaguar forum before I bought my S type Sport (2004). I noted all the problems that people had and still bought one. yes You guessed it; THE HAND BRAKE IS JAMMED ON. Even though this eemed to be a problem at the time

I have left the car in my garage for 2 months whilst away. The car started first time and I was so pleased. Ithought at least the battery would need to be charged.

But when I went to pull out of the garage there was a yellow warning light with the message that the hand brake does not function. But is is the reverse it is jammed on. I have followed the instructions in the manual, Put In the KEY FOOT ON BRAKE and Pull up the hand brake button, no effect.I have disconnected the battery and tried again NO EFFECT

I forced the car out of the garage with brakes jammed on,As I could not get round the car - took of the rear wheels cleaned the brakes with special brake cleaner, Hit the callipers in order to free off the brakes, I put a little oil on the mechanics to the cables, all to no avail. The nearest dealer to me is about 75 kilometres away and I dont fancy paying for the car to be picked up and taken there. Plus whatever they charge to repair it.

The other problem - new, is now the boot wont open with the button although the control on the key works PLEASE ANY IDEAS - ANYONE

disconnect the battery, charge it fully and test it. while it is disconnected the handbrake module may reset. follow instructions in manual upon reconnection of battery. let us know.

Had the same problem on my s-type.
I followed the instructions in the manual, and it worked... although I had to do it a couple of times.
I think I tried both turning the park-brake off (push DOWN on the button whilst removing key), and putting the brake ON (pull UP whilst pushing on brake, if memory serves me correct)... but to be honest, I'd try all the different combinations.
If the battery has been low, you might find the electronics got confused... I'd verify that the battery has a decent charge (at least enough to start the car); I had a 'flat' battery, and even after jump start and running for 15 mins, there was no charge in the battery, and trying to restart caused all sorts of weird instrument displays, including warnings about ABS, DSC et.
good luck

Thanks for your help, yes it was the electrics. Although the car started easily the battery was low.

I charged the battery over night and then disconnceted the battery for over a minute, then followed the instructions - foot on brake - key switched on take off hand brake. All warning light went off and the hand brake was released

I have run the car for a day and now the front window won't go up on the 'one touch', but this is explained in the hand book, so will have a go tonight.

Thanks again to all PISTON HEADS
