If the towbar has a standard 2 hole fixing plate on it then you can buy the ball at any caravan or trailer dealer.
Otherwise it may be a "quick release" tow ball & the ball has been misplaced. Are you sure its not lurking under the spare wheel? If not you may be able to find a plate or stamp on the bar indicating who the manufacturer is (witter, brink etc)& contact them for a replacement ball.

Sounds like it is the quick release type....will have to search out manuf.
