1) The wiper blade.
It was knackered when I got the car so I bought a PIAA silicon one...didn't sit right, in fact it stuck out by over an inch at the end.
So I bought a Bosch one...a bit better but still sat proud by about 1/2 inch.
So I bought one of those floppy flat blade things...which twists itself as it wipes and so doesn't wipe properly.
Oh and it sits slightly proud too.

...sigh...

Does the OE Jag on sit flush? If so I'll capitulate and get one.

2) The boot lid lights.
One has fallen back inside the boot lid liner. The liner seems held on with plastic rivets that I can't work ut how to undo. At first I thought they were the sort that you push the centre part in to release them...but they aren't.
I don't want to pull them off without being able to put them back so any advise on those would be gratefully receieved.

cheers chaps smile

oh, don't start me on wipers, my pet hate, and seem to follow me from car to car! they're NEVER right! mad

i tried everything you did (including jag OEM), and they never wipe properly, there are always smudges and smears, usually right at the height of where i'm looking through the screen.

i've pretty much resigned and given up on ever having nice, smooth, quiet and smear-free wipers...

oh, and my car's windscreen was changed less than a year ago, and even when brand new (with a brand new wiper) it still wasn't right...

what i keep meaning to do is pop into a jag dealer, and have a look on their brand new cars, and see if they have these new style flat blades (i rang, and unsurprisngly, they didn't know anything about them on the phone), and if they do, ask if they have them for s-types, or if they can be retrofitted. i tried some i got off ebay, and they're rubbish!

I know this doesn't help at all. But my X308 wipers are fine.

Would you like me to see what brand the wiper blades are?

Yes please. smile

Vladman...thank the good Lord, thought it was just me being obsessive and yes, you're right, it's always at vision height too.

I use the cheapest refills from my local motor factors - about £3.50 for two - in the origional Jaguar wiper blade. It's the only one I know of that fits properly without having to bend the arm slightly.

It's essential to keep the screen spotlessly clean to get a smear free wipe. Meths, toothpaste or if you're feeling flush a bottle of Jaguar screen cleaning paste works wonders. A film of grease, oil or even residue from car washing shampoo on the glass ruins the wipe quality.

Vlad,

I recall you have an STR whereas I have a ST 4.2 V8. Anyway, I get irritaed by wipers too but I have not had any problems with those on my ST. I have had a look at them and there's no indication of a maker or model etc. All I can say is that they have been replaced when necessary by the JMD I use, so I assume they are a Jaguar authorised part.

Jaguar Steve's comments are good, as usual. I have used the Jaguar screen cleaning paste to remove a build up of wax and other matter and it works well.

i even went and bought that jaguar screen paste, and it does work well, but it still doesn't do anything to improve "poor" wiping... i don't think it's the windscreen, just bad wipers. i may have to go back to the original jag wiper arms (i put them aside when i replaced them with these cr a ppy flat blade ones), and replace just the rubber part in them, and see if that works.

thanks guys.

I bought a new blade complete from www.britishparts.co.uk and it works absolutely great; quiet, smooth & smear free smile

A bit pricey at £8.99, but well worth it for a clear view! thumbup

Do you know if it's an OE part fella?

We run a chauffeur company and bought a Merc Viano 7 seater earlier this year - 54 reg.
It only had 8k up but it too had knackered wipers (why do all my s/h cars have clattered wipers?!!)
I ended up biting the OE bullet and paid £68 for a complete set of 3.

Oooch frown

Not sure if it's an OE part, as it didn't really look like it, but it came complete and was a good fitting onto the wiper arm and as I say, with great results.smile
