After a bit of searching and a few false starts I think I'm about to join the ranks of Jag ownership, I'm going to look at an '94 4.0 Sov tomorrow I'm hoping it's exactly what I'm after on papre it seems to tick all the boxes. However if it's not up to scratch then I've got another to look at on Sun (3.2 Sov) I'd prefer to 4.0 just for the extra grunt but a 3.2 will do at a push. The good thing at the moment is it's a buyers market with lots of cars and few potencial buyers so it should be possible to buy a belter. I'll post some pics once a deal is done.

300s are bargains.

Check for rust or evidence of repairs around the rear wheel arches, make sure it's been well looked after and got service history and plenty of tread on the tyres and go for it.

thanks for that, I already know it as, bubble on O/S rear arch, a little rust on edge of boot lid, small scrape on front wing, but it as a complete S/H and as recently had the head gasket , cam chain, tensioner and aus belts changed, so I'm prepared for a little paint, which I can deal with myself.
I'd prefer a little paint to rebiulding the mechanicals so I'm hoping it's sound in this resect , we will see. I'll report back tomorrow.

I now own a Jaguar Sovereign!!! (well I will do when I pick it up later in the week) the car looks to be in excellent condition, the interior is very good with only slight wear to the drivers seat, the rest is near mint, a little bit of paint is needed to the corner of the bumper and some lacquer as peeled on the boot but aside from these minor issues the car is remarkably straight. One thing that confuses me is the lack of a CD changer, it as the Harmon Kardon amp and speakers but no CD changer the DIN cable is there so I assume it's just a matter of finding the correct unit and plugging it in, is it that simple? if so where do get a suitable CD changer unit?

If you hunt back through this forum you should find the details of the model.
The Jag units turn up regularly on eBay, but I think someone said it was an Alpine model which can be bought more cheaply without the Jag logo.

I've been doing some research on this and it seems that any M-bus CD changer will work on early cars with the 8pin din plug in the boot, popular units are the CHM-s620 and s630 but the s620 doesn't like CDr/rw discs, where as the s630 plays copies no problem. Another issue can be on some later cars ('95-97) Jaguar changed the head unit slightly so it 'asks' for the changer to identify itself as a geniune Jag item rather than a generic Apine unit, if this occurs it is possible to fit the Alpine branded changer by fitting a ALPIL interface. Also for those wanting to play MP3 discs this is possible by using the CHA-s634 changer, this Ai-net player as a switch to allow it to change protocols and use the M-bus cable,(apparently it's the only Ai-net changer to offer this option) a (£10) Alpine KCA-130b cable adapter is required and the headunit won't be able to display full track info, but it will allow 60 hours of music in compressed MP3 form.
I've just bought a used Alpine CHM-S630 on feabay for £20 so I'll report back when it's fitted.
