CD changer advice required

I about to collect a '94 Sov and although it as the Harmon sound system fitted it doesn't have the CD changer, it does however have the 8 pin din cable already fitted next o he Harmon amp.
I've done some searching online and come up with the Apine CHM-S630 as been a suitable unit, can anyone comfirm this is the right changer. Many of the vendors selling these (and the Jag branded Alpine unit) state that if the car as the 8 pin din cable fitted then any Alpine Jag changer with a matching din plug will work is this true or does the changer only work with specific head units?
Also do the head units differ from '94 to '97 ?

I am not sure if you would rather consider an MP3 player, you can get the 8 pin din to RCA plugs and the RCA to 3.5mm jack plug for max £30 quid, means a lot more music for your money

Would this mean that you would have to sit in the boot to change tracks though?

Sorry to repeat myself but I realised this may be a more appropriate thread to post this:
I've been doing some research on this and while it would be nice to have the MP£3 / ipod options I don't want to go to the trouble of changing whole system.
As it seems that any M-bus CD changer will work on early cars with the 8pin din plug in the boot, popular units are the CHM-s620 and s630 but the s620 doesn't like CDr/rw discs, where as the s630 plays copies no problem. Another issue can be on some later cars ('95-97) Jaguar changed the head unit slightly so it 'asks' for the changer to identify itself as a geniune Jag item rather than a generic Apine unit, if this occurs it is possible to fit the Alpine branded changer by fitting a ALPIL interface. Also for those really wanting to play MP3 discs this is possible by using the CHA-s634 changer, this Ai-net player as a switch to allow it to change protocols and use the M-bus cable, apparently it's the only Ai-net changer to offer this option (correct me if I'm wrong on that) a (£10) Alpine KCA-130b cable adapter is required and the headunit won't be able to display full track info, but it will allow 60 hours of music in compressed MP3 form.
I've just bought a used Alpine CHM-S630 on feabay for £20 so I'll report back when it's fitted.

Only if you terminate the cable in the boot, the part about running it through to a convenient location was implicit
