The anti-lock warning light has come on in my x300. Whilst handy for the snow, it's not something I want to live with.

I have had the car for just undwer 1 month so will be calling the chap I bought the car from with a view to getting it fixed. I just wondered if this is a common thing or it it a harbinger of pricey things to come. Is it likely to be an easy fix?

Would very much appreciate any thoughts, thanks

It could be just the battery needs a good charge. The electrics are a bit sensitive to voltage. Mine used to do if it had been parked for a couple of weeks.
So a good charge might clear it.
It is also possible the battery is on the way out.

Then it could be the ABS module. You can buy these new for three arms and your first born. You can also buy recon units. I eventually had to replace mine, I got one from Berkshire Jag spares very reasonably. Getting it fitted didn't cost too much. The guy from Jagspares even through in a pump in case I needed it, he said I wouldn't, and I didn't.

Only thing that has gone wrong with the car in the 13 years I've owned it.

Thanks. Battery is brand new, so will not be that. Could be a dodgy connection (hoping), othwise it's getting into money territory. What kind of price are we talking?

Hoping it'll be covered by trader as I've had it >1 month.

Sorry I can't remember the price and I'm off in India at the moment.
I think the pump was somewhere in the mid £100s can't remember the labor figure but it was less than I expected.

Have the fault codes read first, take out most of the guesswork, it can often be an easy fix bad connections ect

if you bought it from a trader and had it less then a month then take it back. Make it his problem not yours IMO.

Early x300's had a different ABS ECU setting. The ECU only ever ran the pump when the ABS was activated. Therefore the pumps used to stick, and cause a high resistance reading back to the ABS ECU. Later modules included a ' pump run ' feature, which ran the pump when the ign was switched on. The code would say it was the pump at fault, one trick we used to do was clear the code, then drive the car over 10 mph, and use the ABS, on gravel or something. It is good practise to cycle the ABS pumps on these anyway. Use it when you dont need it, so you know it works when you do. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your advice all. The lamp has since extinguished itself of it's own accord. A couple of brake tests on an empty road confirms the system is working so I'll put it down to a wobbly connection and leave it for now.
