97 XK8 Hydraulic/Electric Roof Fault - Help Please
Discussion
Hi, Can anyone shed any light on the following fault, the roof retracted perfectly but on closure it got to within 25mm of the catch and stopped dead (Catch in cloased position), no noise, just stopped, the switch is dead and the rear windows will not rise, Ive checked the fuse this is fine, there's no oil leaks and the resovoir is to level. could it be a relay/switch problem, I dont think its hydraulic, Ive looked online and pump failure is very rare Any help would be appreciated

there are switches on the hydraulic rams which stop the windows going up untill the roof is closed.close the roof by hand use tools next to the pump.
remove head lining by window both sides and lift roof frame up where ram is connected untill it clicks in place this should get the windows to close when you press the switch

Are you sure that the latch opened up properly while the top was going up? I had a situation several times where the latch was binding and not extending all the way. The result was the top stopping right before reaching the latch and all switches go dead. I had to manually latch the top using the supplied allen wrench. To resolve I sprayed the latch with some WD-40 and have had no problems since then.

Does it have the old fluid in it? There were problems with the fluid becoming conglead?? (Spelling)
you need to take off the top latch rail, and flush the system out, there was a TSB, from Jaguar, but i dont have access to these anymore. If you are gonna attempt the job let me know, and i will guide you further.Or if your near watford you could pay me to do it!!!

Thanks everyone for your help with the roof fault, I took the car to our local garage for a pre summer inspection and asked them to inspect further the fault, the latch was binding and after manualy freeing the mechanism the roof worked fine, I am going to have the fluid flushed but have been told not to buy the fluid from Jaguar as it is expensive, anyone any ideas as to where I can purchase the fluid aftermarket. Again thanks to everyone on Pistonheads
