I don't think it is the throttle cable, could be that the throttle needs a good clean.
The other thing is that there was a recall for throttle change on the early XK8/Rs as there was a fault
I think you are to late for the free replacement now, new throttles are £1,000 inc VAT
If it is that I do have a new replacement if required at no where near that price.

Hi,
I have a 1998 XJR and there was a main dealer recall at some time for the cars cutting out.
The useful thing here is that I called the local Main Dealer for some information on my car and he told me about the recall. It was the throttle body fault and they replaced it free of charge.
Not sure when the recall was issued but mine got through the net yet the work was done in January this year.
