The importance of a warranty
Discussion
Hi all,
Well car has been in for repair 3 times in 3 weeks!
First was restricted performance but code was not specific enough i was told....had the fault cleared and told to keep my eye on it.
3 days later it comes back on and this time it is diagnosed as a new water pump for the supercharger
Now 1 week later i get gearbox fault on dash and apparently the code is PO783 which the technician told me is non-repairable by re-setting so it looks like new gearbox
Car is 53 plate xkr convertible and has covered 61k but thankfully when i bought it last august it came with 1 year full jag warranty so both the above are covered.
The warranty runs out august this year and will cost £1,700 per annum but after the above problems i think it is very risky not to extend it again.
How many here have warranties on ther vehicles?

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
Yes i am thinking along those lines now i have settled down.
Getting back the gearbox fault:-
The technician was from jaguar assistance and made the diagnosis at my home
The car is going into Stratstones, where i purchased it so the tech has no relationship with the repair centre
as he did not even know if it needed to go in before his visit nor was he aware of where it was going to be taken so i think the diagnosis is a genuine one as there was no ''profit'' in it from the jag assistance man.
Maybe if the engine gives out before august i won't have to bother with a warranty but if i don't extend it then sod's law something will give out

Keslake,
I've had an S-Type 4.2 V8 SE since new (it was a 2 week old demonstrator done 14 miles only and I got £11,000 off the list price!). I've had it 5 1/4 years and done 77000.
It came with the usual Jaguar 3 year warranty and I've extended it on a year by year basis since then, at a cost per year of around £1100. I think it is possible to carry on with a yearly basis provided the warranty is extended before the current year runs out and before 100,000 miles.
I don't agree with an earlier post that extended warranties are insurance products that are inferior, at least as far as my experience with Jaguar are concerned. I checked this out in considerable detail before I had the first extension and I've done so each year since. Provided you simply extend it, it remains a Jaguar warranty with the same wording and Jaguar responsibilities as operate for the warranty for the first three years.

The Jaguar Enthusiasts club now does a comprehensive warranty at a good price, worth a look.
