Hi All,

Was wondering if anyone had any advice regarding a blow from the downpipe on my 3.2 Jaguar x300 (1995)

There is a heat shield that covers the whole assembly so i can't see it, Does that have to be removed (can this be done without destroying the heat shield)

And are they known for blowing/failing in a certain area?

Any advice would be great before i endevour to remove the whole downpipe/cats from the car.

Thanks,

Richard.

Hi Richard.
The heatshield does come off in one piece unlikely to break, lots of lube on the mounting bolts. Most likely cause of blow is cracked manifold, very common.

Mine went there about this time last year, it was the original from 94. If you look on eBay then you can buy the area where the down pipes join, so I guess they do go there.
With mine they cut back part of the heat shield to get to the bit needing welding. You just end up with slightly less shielding. I believe it is supposed to be more "noise" shielding, but the sound level doesn't appear to have changed much.

On my 95 XJR I kept getting a blow from the manifold to downpipe joints. All I needed to do was remove the heatshield (easy) & nip up the nuts around the joint. Had to do this about 3 times in 2 years. Never had a crack though!

Thanks for the advice chaps....

hopefully then, all the shielding will just come off.... as i mentioned i can feel the exhaust gasses exiting where the shield does not fit perfectly around the pipe (at the bottom off the car, just before the joint where it joins the rest of the exhaust system) but untill i remove all the shielding i can't see where...lol (but i think it is below the cats somewhere)

Thanks,

Rich.

On my 95XJR it was blowing between the manifold & head, when I took the shield off half the nuts were missing. My manifolds have been welded at some stage but seem ok.
