Jaguar XFR Purchase negotiation advice
Discussion
Hi fellow PHers.
Looks like I may be joining the jaguar fold
Still gonna keep the TVR though.
Went to view the new XFR yesterday and have a test drive booked in for this coming Friday.
My question is this: List price is £59,900 and the salesman seems keen to do a deal, so was wondering if any one could give me some advice re-negotiating a good price with him.
Many thanks for any help and roll on Friday.

Which Surrey dealer? Is it a car they actually have at the Dealership, is it a dealer pre-reg or demo or brand new and unreg'd?
Word was that you could get 5-7% discount when XF was first launched. The XFR is a different beast, I would have thought they wouldn't want to offer anything, but it is the end of March and the end of financial year may well be with them and want to get in a sale. What colour and what options does it have?

Hi Triple7
Guy Salmon-Thames Ditton, would be new and un-registered. Was thinking Kyanite blue with charcoal interior. 8 week delivery time. Not sure on the extas to go for as it is pretty well loaded with toys. Prob rear parking with the camera and jaguar voice, poss heated steering wheel. Other options are electric rear sun blind, jet suede headlining, dab radio, B&W sound system, digi/analogue TV, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitor, glass sunroof and portable audio interface.

You going to buy the demo then, if so wait a couple of weeks I've had to reschedule my test drive until the week after next!Guy Salmon-Thames Ditton, would be new and un-registered. My thoughts, Kyanite Blue is a v personal colour choice, don't think they'll sell many. I wasn't a huge fan when I saw it in the flesh.
As for options definitely the rear park with camera, the rear brake light blocks the rear view quite a bit. I've got voice control on my Discovery and never use it, so IMHO don't bother. I do however use the tv quite a bit so recommend that option and have always loved the adaptive cruise for UK motorways, but it is a seldom ordered option on Jags. Gotta get the sun roof to hear the howl and while you are at it get the B&W sound. However, if you are just going to use your ipod to source you music, the B&W will be a waste as the compressed files on ipods will not let you enjoy the sound they produce. Once you have had an heated steering wheel you will never want to be without......I think all the options only add up to about £4k so treat yourself.
Let me know how you get on with the deal, PM me in private if you want.......who you dealing with Marco?
great choice! I don't think it will be long before I'm knocking on the dealer's door either
the XFR is going to be some car.
regarding haggling, I guess all you can do is make it clear that are definitely going to buy an XFR, whether or not you buy one from that dealer is up to him. Make it clear you're after a good deal and that you're prepared to shop around to get it. I'm sure you'll get lots of stuff about it being a new model in limited numbers etc but be prepared to walk out of the showroom if the dealer isn't prepared to budge. you can always walk back in again a week later.
my favourite trick is to play on that a bit. I tell them what they have to do to get me to sign a deal today. If they go for it i shake their hand and sign up there and then. if not I walk out.
i think we have to be realistic about a new model if ordered from the factory. The real bargains are only going to be had on demonstrators or stock in the showroom they want to shift. But there are always opportunities to haggle in a market like this. Just don't expect £10k off the price but to get a few extras thrown in for free should be possible I'd have thought - especially if you're keeping the TVR and not looking to part exchange anything.
best of luck and give us a full report after the test drive, ideally with pics!

Hey Pits I like your thinking
Had a good long test drive and ............................................................................................................................I loved it so much I bought the car
Black with the black and red leather. Usual extra toys and negotiated a 5% discount. Not to shabby a discount I think. Should get it in about 8 weeks.

Wow that's quick work. Congratulations and fair play to you for supporting a great British marque at a very tough time. All that aside you're ending up with all the saloon car you'll ever need and then some. I'm sure it will be a joy to own and it's a genuine supercar frightener. Let's not forget you'll have the same bhp as a £170k DBS, lots more torque and four proper seats. As mentioned I'm not sure how long I'll be able to hold out myself!
Great job on the haggling you did better than I thought was possible. Have you got any tips for me?!

I can't pretend for a minute that I wouldn't love a DBS mind, but the new Jags do offer amazing value for money, especially the XFR. It's a cutting edge car and I'm sure the reports will continue to glow.
As it happens Mrs Pits hired me a DBS for the day for my birthday. I'm sure I'll enjoy it a lot, I loved the DB9, but it will have to go some to justify the extra cash. Luckily Mrs Pits likes Astons but I think she was hoping that hiring one would get it out of my system, not put one in the garage! It would definitely be a tougher sell than a decent four seater XFR!
The tuscan's actually kept in the UK but I hope to be using it at the end of may to take it down to Le Mans with my bro who has a Ford GT. There's a trackday there we're booked on, the week before the actual 24hr race. The GT is in gulf colours so it will look amazing going down the pit straight. Bro figures it's got to go there at least once. The tuscan, well that's got a Le Mans finishing and GT car winning engine in it hasn't it? So it probably better be along for the ride too.
Nice trip to run the new Jag in too no? And Jaguar and Le Mans go back way further than either Ford or TVR!

Funnily enough my wife and my friend ukcerb's wife got together and bought us a go in an Aston at Silverston on the 31st May. Used to go to Le Mans every year but for the last 3 years been taking the cars on driving holidays. Went to the Millau Bridge and then on to Barcelona last year, and ukcerb and I are off again on the 5th June for a week. Might take the Jag if its here in time, having said that I do enjoy driving the Chimaera. You and your bro are gonna have a ball racing round the Le Mans track
You never know we might be able to meet up for a beer if our trips over lap.

Broadspeed are offering £5815 discount on a XFR at 54085 or 52887 for a pre-reg
Have you had experience with Broadspeed per chance? Quoting 48k for pre reg xk 5.0. Would you still be able to get dealer special offer finance with that as well?red355 said:

Would you still be able to get dealer special offer finance with that as well?I ordered my car 3 months before they where launched (Sept 06) and they just offered the discount shown on the website without any haggling.
I was upfront with my local dealer who won't budge at all as it was "a new model SIR, we don't need to discount". My final chance to them was go 1/2 on a service pack and I will buy from you and place deposit now. They said no can do..... I did have to use the local dealer about a month in to sort out a minor fault, bumped into the salesman who was shocked that I got the price of the leather interior + more off.
I did say you had the chance (twice)
Broadspeed is a internet front for inchcape so the jag dealers would probably be http://www.minster-jaguar.co.uk/
