Not sure you can rely on Autocar for the whole story - that's a bit like relying on The Sun for a unbiased and sensibly reported analysis of current affairs hehe

I can't really see the point in an hybrid XJ myself when the diesel one is so economical - still, anything that gets the 'Mentalists back in their boxes and helps preserve jobs in the UK motor industry R&D can only be a good thing.

Ironic really isn't it 'tho - that polticians and tree huggers have spent the last decade or so destroying the luxury car industry by taxation and environmental spin and now have to spend lots of taxpayers money on token "green technology" bailing it out.

Well if the Govt are going to loan £800m, then I expect that they may have to show some willingness. LR have the LRX on the go which is a hybrid and there is talk of a new 7/8 speed auto which shows good stop/start potential for future JLR products.

I think luxury Hybrids is quite a good niche market to get into particularly if you need to appease the greenies and the gubberment.

It is generally pretentious overpaid tossbags that buy Hybrid cars anyway so they can probably afford to shell out for something a tad more respectable than a Prius.

On balance though it is still seems a bit sad to see a company with such a prolific history of massive petrol engines go down the ecobox road. But I guess the screwballs have spoken.

I agree - something for the wkers while the rest of us buy proper cars without any damage to the environment whatsoever. I am sure that one day though the technology will pay off and give us good cars with phenomenal economy.
