Damiler Series III - Help with value please.
Discussion
Hello everyone,
I have owned this for nearly 10 years now, been unused for last three, and want to see it go to a good home instead of sitting in the Garage at home! It looks too nice to do that!
It is a 1992, Damiler Series III with the 5.3l V12. Color is black. They are rare, and it is probably one of the last made. Has 100k on it. Lots of service history etc.
Car currently starts/runs/drives. I have a new dizzy that I plan to fit prior to sale. It does not have an MOT - worth doing prior to sale? Paint is good, interior very good. Only let down is the wheels - lacquer is cracked, and they need a refurd IMO.
Could anyone tell me a sensible/realistic price for it (reasonably quick sale preffered, but not desperate)? As a taxed/MOT'ed car, and without?
Cheers
Syed
I honestly think you'd be very lucky to get near to £5k for it, even with MOT.
Robert Hughes has an 1985 car with 64k on it, which will be absolutely mint, for £7995.
Condition/history/mileage etc. much more important than age, unless you maybe have the very last one!
Sorry to be negative.
However, lovely lovely car.

looks like a very nice car for £4k (I'm tempted anyway) I guess you need to ask yourself if your is not as good as/as good as/better then this one.
Personally I'd want it MOT'd before I brought it (or how can I test drive it?) and serviced, really. I presume after 3 years the air-con no longer works? I dare say the electric aerial is also stuck, and the electric windows are a bit slow....the coolent/oil will need changing....
Anyway, if you want near £4k for it it needs to be 'ready to go' not 'ready to have £500 spent on it before it can be used'
Sorry if I'm being harsh, just being honest. Other buyers may feel differently.

Cheers guys. I was thinking somewhere between 2-4k. I will spend some time with it and see exactly what needs doing. May sell it nearer the lower price to someone how knows their way round the car, will do the little bits it needs, and then cherish it. (Plus, I get all sentimental each time I clean/service/spend time with it, and then I want to keep it!)
The real selling point will be the condition of the body and interior. If it's in really good origional condition and has potential to be bought back to pristine then you have a car that should sell - even if it needs some mechanicial work and time spent on it.
Anybody looking at an S3 V12 is likley to be fairly knowledgeble and will want to spend some time before making a offer. I'd get a new MOT, any obvious problems sorted and start by asking between £4/5k. Mileage may put many people off though, but I'd say without an MOT it's unlikley to sell or even attract a viewer unless it's at a giveaway price.

That car sold on Ebay today for £2505: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1988-JAGUAR-DAIMLER-DOUBLE-S...http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/987739.htm

2k would be a minimum, as is price - especially given this whole car scrapping incentive on the horizon. As that car above shows, just like modifications, servicing etc adds little value to a cars sale price.
Just started it up, I do love these cars - need to have the strength not to replace it with another Jag! (mmmm Lister XJS from another PH thread I read earlier today)
The biggest impact on value will be body condition. I lightly restored a S3 4.2 a few years ago. Where is it rusty? Windscreen frames? Rear wheel arches? Lower front & rear wings?
If the above areas are rusty its only worth £500.
I sold my 4.2 sov which had the above area's sorted properly & with no mechanical faults, working a/c & a mint interior for £1550 - that was the best I could do.

I think these cars (XJ6/X300/X308/XJ-S) are so undervalued. I couldn't sell my XJ-S for anywhere near reasonable money so just kept it. The only reason I'm not totally dperessed is I can pick up a nice replacement cheap, and of course I didn't pay much in the first place.
I am expecting a large bill to get my XJ8 through it's MOT. The sills and wheel arches are staring to go. I only paid £1600 for it so its probably more cost effective to scrap it and go and get another Jag with a long MOT and recent service to replace it rather than spend money on it.Gassing Station | Jaguar | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
