E-Type IRS Rebuild
Discussion
I own a series 2 2+2 auto, just recently a rotational knocking is coming from the rear, I have checked axle oil and rear bearings seem OK. I think the next step is to have the unit out and have it rebuilt, I would like to have a go myself, but does anybody know of someone who does exchange units.

Check to see if your rear hub nuts are tight and your hubs/ wheels are in good shape ! If you have the tin covers over the driveshaft U/Js check make sure they are not fouling the outer hubs. Take them off and discard if need be. Check to see if your front prop U/J is in good shape. Noise can travel sometimes giving the effect it is at the rear. It is a pain ,to get to, but worth a look. If that needs overhaul then you would have to take the axle out anyway.
Thanks for the advice, I guess it is a bit like finding a needle in a haystack since it could be a multitude of different things that could be causing the noise. If it matters it doesn't seem as bad when I have a passenger, make of that what you will. But thanks for the pointers, I'll follow them up and see if it makes a difference.
