S TYPE STEERING LOCK WONT COME OFF ANY IDEAS PLEASE

Hi i have a 99 s type jaguar 3.0 auto which when i put the key in the ignition it wont release the steering lock however the car does turn on the ignition but car wont start also i cannot get it out of park but i assume this is because the steering lock is not releasing any help or advice would be really appreciated thanks in advance

There will be a "key in" sensor in the ignition barrel,probably the little door flap as you put the key in, and as the steering lock is electronically operated it wont release until it recognises that there is a key in the barrel and not some herb with a baseball cap and screwdriver trying to steal your car.
