Thought i would share my conversation with a certain car dealer to warn others away.
Calls himself 'SpikeGeneral'
He has an early XK8 on autotrader and ebay currently. £4695, so a reasonable price.
His advert doesnt say much more than a list of standard equipment.
Phoned to ask mileage,..150k, owners..6, any rust? Has the nose been sprayed, as it looks a different shade?

His response was " its 13 years old, probably been sprayed all over, sick of people asking stupid questions, go and buy a new one!"

It all seemed too much trouble for this tt, lots of sighing as i asked him to look up the history etc, makes you wonder how they ever do any business.
Perhaps he would like to send a minion to the local auction, buy a heap or c..p for peanuts, wash it, and stick 2k on the price, without putting any work in to it?

Hope he's stuck with the car till it rusts away!

i have an even better one.
some months ago now i came across a nice original early 325 sport bmw. i was quite interested as it was priced reallistically. now this was a dealer in northampton who advartises a lot on p/heads. next day i phoned bout said car and was told by the lady owner/partner that because they had had a lot of calls regarding this car the price had increased by 2000 pounds. i was amazed at this and told the girlie that if this is how you do business then i wouldnt go near them, to which she told me that they have been in business a long time and doesnt need people like me telling her what she can do/cant do. i was genuinely interested in this car and also a porsche and may have purchased both but after that no way would i even consider getting into my car and travelling to them as the price of both cars may have increased while i was travelling to them!!!
the car was 4 sale a long time and may now be sold but what mongrels for behaving in such an ARTHUR DALEY fashion. hope they go out of business soon.

Apart from him being a ****, the nose of early XKs can be a slightly different shade as Jaguar had problems matching it or something like that.

Saw an xk8 on a floor court in a garage near us, reasonably priced at 4995 gbp, thought i would give the guy a ring phone to see what sort of history the car had, when i asked if it had a replacement engine, he got shirty and said ,"and why would it have had a new engine" so i explained about the nikasil probs and he checked the history read
came back on the phone and said that it had a new engine fitted by jagyes

I saw that one as well. Think it might have had some paintwork though, the inside of the door jam looks a bit 'fresh', and the guys feedback reveals a bumper purchase. Might not be a bad thing though, if its been done well.

The fixings are deferant between the Mk1 and the Mk2 so that does happen at times

I remember calling a well known TVR/Jag dealer (in Hampshire) regarding an XK8 they were advertising. The car was priced at £14k, looked tidy & had the larger 20" rims fitted in the pics & were also mentioned in the ad.

The chap i spoke to seemed fairly pleasant until he got to the price, "sorry the ad is wrong mate, its £15K, not 14", Mmmmmm......

Conversation followed along with a story that the 20" rims in the ad had been damaged beyond repair & the car was now being sold with a set of 18" wheels fitted. For £15k.
"However", said the dealer, "we do have another set of 20" rims we could fit to the car, for an extra £1K"

I declined the kind offer.
The following day this chap was on the phone repeatdly telling me they had a chap in the showroom wanting to pay the full whack for the car, but he would rather sell it to me at £15k because he "did'nt really like him".

Tossers.

Oh dear, another example of lazy dealers has just appeared on this site. Check out 'Bristol St motors' XK8.

If you have indoor lighting to make your cars glimmer, dont put a wet car under them, does nothing for the shine!

Lol. They are the very reason we started designXKR. They were very sniffy when we took our 99 XK to them for some major engine work. The car had had some recent vandalism but they looked down their noses as the less than perfect condition.

We recently had a lady come to us who is looking for a light coloured convertible and asked for our help in finding a suitable car for her. I did some searching around and came up with a list of possibles. One of them included in the list a LSD so I rang to ask for some details of who had supplied it. The reply from the rather snotty salesman? "Madam a Limited slip diff is standard on all XKs, perhaps I should discuss the car with your husband instead as he will understand"

Needless to say he was quickly told the way of the world.
