A nice easy exhaust mod which gives a bit more growl is to change the back boxes for straight through stainless pipes,
around 200 gbp the pair complete with nice tail pipes from Adamesh, XKZahran or JEC ,

so are you saying loose the rear box or are they still boxes but with thru pipes within does this effect mot thanks againaround 200 gbp the pair complete with nice tail pipes from Adamesh, XKZahran or JEC ,

HAD SAME QUESTION MYSELF AND ADU GAVE ME THE ADVICE. HAD ALREADY HAD A STAINLESS SYSTEM MADE FOR MY CHEROKEE AND WENT BACK TO THIS LOCAL COMPANY IN BRUM AN TOLD THEM WHAT I WANTED. THEY MADE IDENTICAL PIPES AS THE PICS ADU SENT YOU AND THEY FITTED THEM AS WELL ALL FOR 200 QUID SO I WAS REAL HAPPY AND A LIFETIME GUARANTEE TO BOOT. MANY LOCAL GARAGES NOW MAKE STAINLESS EXHAUSTS AND AS LONG AS THEY USE GOOD QUALITY STAINLESS AND BRACKETS YOU SHOULDNT HAV ANY PROBS AND I WOULD THINK AS THEY ARE ONLY PIPES WITH NO SILENCER INSIDE THEY WILL ALL SOUND THE SAME WHOEVER MAKES THEM. I AM REALLY PLEASED WITH THE GROWL THEY MAKE AS I FIND ITS NOT TOO INTRUSIVE IN THE CAR AND WHEN YOU DO HAV WINDOWS DOWN THEN YOU GET THE BENEFIT OF THEM AND THEY DONT CAUSE ANY PROBS AT MOT TIME AS YOU STILL HAV THE CATS AND 3 SILENCERS. IF I WANT ANY MORE NOISE THEN I WILL JUST TAKE THE NXT 2 BOXES AWAY BUT FOR NOW AM MORE THAN HAPPY. GOOD LUCK
Why is it that the new XK with a performance exhaust sounds SO much different from an older XK8? The Latest Xks sound wonderful, much deeper and less raspy than the modified XK8s that I have seen, is it due to the large back box that they have?

I was involved in the preliminary development of the X150 in terms of sound quality design.Edited by ajmac on Wednesday 2nd September 20:03
It's not as simple as saying it's because it uses a larger back box. NVH really is an analytical science.
As a general rule-If you want to attentuate lower deep frequencies you a 3 pass or 2 pass silencer. Failing that- you use silencers with alot of perforations within that act as expansions. If you want to target higher frequncies-for a more 'woofly' sound you use more straight through silencing- and vary the amount of wadding.
Interesting Marquis, what about the headers ?, to me they seem an after thought compared to what you have for your old Yank 8s. I accept under bonnet temperature would be a problem, but surely the cast manifolds dampen the Jaguar power and ruin the torque potential no matter what fancy exhaust is fitted.
Have the US engineers designed a damper that works yet...? yet?

With the cast iron manifolds you lose mainly low speed torque. I've tested AJV8s with tubular length manifolding. It makes a big difference to low speed torque. The cast iron logs are a concession to rapid catalyst light off for emissions.Have the US engineers designed a damper that works yet...? yet?

The AJ37/AM5 Aston martin engine (a development of the Jag engine I was involved in) has a reasonable tubular manifold compromise. If i ever buy an XJR- I know EXACTLY what I WILL do to it to make it a scorcher!
Yeah- American cars can be under damped- although BMW and Merc drivers say the same about Jags. It's a matter of choice I suppose.
