ok think this will be the last of the probs for a while, just got the car and knew the fob didnt work, poss battery ...dont know as not even sure how the fob comes open to get to it.. it wont operate the locks or what ever, also have tried to lock the door with key...it does but not lock the pass door! then the key wont open drivers door again we have to go in thru the pass door which sets the alarm of... and then open the drivers door. alarm stops when key is in the ignition.. sense the system is prob faulty or needs re program. any views very very welcome again thanks all

Sounds like the transmitter fob has lost it's programme.

Put new batteries in (all of) them and do this:

Hold headlight flasher back
Turn ignition key to position 1
Flash headlights 4 times - alarm wil enter programming mode - beeps and security LED on J gate will flash
Programme each transmitter - you can do up to 5 - by pressing the lock or unlock button once
The alarm will beep to show it's reading the tramsmitter
The alarm must beep five times to complete the programming. If you have one transmitter then press the lock or unlock button five times, if you have two then press the button one three times and the other twice, if you have three.. oh, go on work it out.

If only some functions on the transmitter work then you may have a build up of dirt on some of the contacts. Try a shot of swich cleaner round the button followed by a blast of air and some robust button pushing to see if you can get it to work.

Hood oil change - there's an improved spec. fluid to use but the two must not be mixed so a full flush is needed - has been covered in the JEC magazine IIRC a couple of years ago. Might be worth contacting the JEC (www.jec.org) to see if they can sell you a copy. There's also a specific forum for the XK which will no doubt try to help too but I can't remember the address.

You mean automatic door locking when you put the car in drive? A feature of what mode the Valet system is in I think - have a look in the handbook.

steve tried the new fob battery, and the system you suggested but absolute zero.. no beeps lights or any thing.. think the brains of the car need a kick as now got the traction control warning light coming on had it briefly before then went out now started it this afternoon and its back on reluctant to take to jag centre as once in there will come out less arm and leg !!! thanks in advance

Try a hard reset. Disconnect the battery and leave disconnected for a while. Then reconnect and see if the error codes and faults have cleared. Your transmitter could be knackered, that could be why it's not communicating with the alarm and accepting the reprogramme or your battery may be failing - Track Fail indication is often a symptom of a battery that's on its way out. You could borrow a known good battery and see if that helps, but if not I guess it's time to try another transmitter or for some proper diagnostics.

Hmm , just wondering on the state of the car battery wink Know issue for funny problems. Note the lock on engaging drive is an option and can be switched off (i did). xkec rules for XK problems (most of your replies are from members)
