twice now my 97 xk8 has just died on me. 1st time on a short trip down m/way an lost power but managed to get on h/shoulder an let it idle for couple of mins an then she was ok. second time good blast up good d/carriageway and same again, left it a while an all good again, but its makin me wary to use car as i think it could be dangerous if it stops at the wrong time. only seems to happen when the car has done some speed albeit for relatively short times. any ideas appreciated

This could be a number of reasons......does it go into 'limp mode' or just cut out? You need to see if you have an error codes and what they are referring to before anyone can make a firm suggestion otherwise it will stab in the dark stuff which is as useful as a chocolate tea pot!

I have read lots suggesting it could be the throttle body - sounds just like your symptoms..

This is in fact a common fault with early XK's

Jagaur did have a recall, now expired, for a change of Throttle Body
I new one from Jagaur is in the reagion of £1,000
I have one, again new, for a lot less.

eMail me if you're interested, my eMail wouldn't go through to you.

I believe that Jaguar have extended the throttle body recall to december this year,
It would be well worth you contacting your main dealer Nev and asking them if this has been done previous or not , they should have all your recall history ,

i think on the early cars they reflashed the ECU for this Prob too ,

Good luck Nev

Is there any way to confirm it IS the throttle body before spending £££?

If you send me the last 6 digits of your VIN number I will check it out on Monday and see if there is a Throttle Body recall outstanding on your vehicle.
